“The most powerful relationship you will ever have is the relationship with yourself. ” – Steve Maraboli
And why not? Even if you are a true empathizer and a true giver of the society, you MUST take time-out for yourself too. You can’t serve others with an empty cup.
There is a difference between being selfish and self-care. Selfish is something where everything revolves around you and not anyone else, whereas, self-care includes you along with other members of the society. Self-care is giving yourself the time, energy and attention that you deserve.
Let’s talk about different way to take care of yourself – without being selfish.
1. Language – Your Verbal matters.
Oh yes! Words are energy and it could have deep effect on your moods, thoughts and even on your body. It is a very common practice that when we fail or lose, we don’t mind a second to lose hope too. No matter how low you feel, always speak good about you, change the way you speak about yourself and your will see great and positive change in your life.
Examples:
Negative: “We can’t initiate until we get requirements”.
Positive: “Please give us the requirements so we can start it off”.
Or
Negative: “You can’t work under pressure”.
Positive: “Please relax yourself to work in a better way”.
Or
Negative: “Don’t play with the ball inside”.
Positive: “Please play with the ball outside”.
2. Mindful Eating – Slow down
Everything takes time and we need to understand that rushing out can hinder our physical, mental and spiritual growth. Let’s talk with an example, how easily or in a relaxed mode have you taken your breakfast today? Sometimes, we don’t even notice the taste of what we are eating. Just take 10 minutes out of your busy schedule, sit and gulp your food while enjoying every chunk of it. One spoonful of bite should be chewed at least 10 to 12 times.
3. Time Management
Be wise enough to schedule and prioritize your daily tasks first thing in the morning. Your daily activities determine the real you, moreover, schedule some healthy activities in between which are purely for your well-being.
4. Proper Use of Social Media
Undoubtedly, Social media is a place where we have found our old school buddies and find new ones too. But what appears on the screen is not always the reality, it is declared as a trap by many popular researches that more time you spend on social media websites, more likely you’ll end up with lack of gratitude. On the contrary, when we do face-to-face interactions and go real-social, means socializing with real person, we feel better.
5. Treat Yourself
Everyone deserve to be happy and the smallest act of kindness can brighten up a day for anyone. Treat yourself with those little things, sometimes a new casual dress, or a new cell phone cover or some fresh flowers. These little gifts can provide you a boost and serve as a reminder that you’re worth it.
Another way to treat yourself is a better good night sleep. Long 7 to 8 hours quality night sleep affects your next day activities. Taking care of your physical and psychological need is one of the best gifts you can give to yourself and everyone around you.
